FOOD INSECURITY IN WNC

The core aim of the Valley Hope Foundation’s Nourish WNC program is to provide nutritious food to individuals and families facing food insecurity in Western North Carolina. In order to ensure our programs are able to reach those most in need, we estimated food insecurity rates for communities across Western North Carolina. Because reaching under-served rural communities is a special concern of Nourish WNC we also examined how population density intersects food insecurity in these communities. We hope to continue building a comprehensive picture of food insecurity in Western North Carolina to guide the development of our food distribution and long-term recovery efforts. We also hope that the analysis shared here is useful to service providers and other interested individuals across WNC.
