Community Cares

Community Cares is an initiative of Valley Hope Foundation’s Nourish WNC program, developed in collaboration with Rite Buy Grocery to directly support local families through grocery assistance. The initiative utilizes a community-powered grocery card, allowing families to choose the foods they need with dignity while strengthening the local food system. Community Cares is funded by community donors and sponsors, and is facilitated through grocery purchases at Rite Buy Grocery - an independent, family-owned grocer serving downtown Swannanoa.

Who Community Cares serves

Community Cares is for households in rural Western North Carolina experiencing food insecurity, including families facing barriers such as:

  • limited income or rising food costs

  • transportation challenges

  • rural isolation and limited grocery options

  • disaster-related disruptions to food access
